DESIGN AND PRODUCTION

Midtjyske Tæpper - Anne Mette Larsen - Bogomslag

In my work as a weaver, there are three things that almost always recur: an often anarchic dyeing process, a tight vertical/ horizontal composition and a narrative rooted in concrete facts and regularities that emerge from necessity, need, and coincidence defined by others.

In this series of Midtjyske Tæpper, the floor plan of Klostermølle formed the basis of the composition.

Through a long life as a weaver, I think I have woven more or less 1 kilometre worth of fabric when I add it all up: rag rugs, tea towels, scarves, woolen curtains (that was in the ‘80s…) as well as square items you can hang on a nail in the wall.

This is my first experience of putting something into production and it was a huge experience to follow the rugs at Røros Tweed from large spools of yarn to finished rugs packed into boxes, ready to be sent to Mid-Jutland.

It all happened a bit faster than I’m used to and I didn’t get a sore shoulder… but there are many processes for a rug to pass through before it ends up on a sofa.
